ED SHEERAN TWEETED THIS AFTER HE WAS VOTED MOST INFLUENTIAL ACT IN BLACK MUSIC.
THIS WAS HIS RESPONSE.
DO NOT SHOW SUPPORT FOR THAT.
Hello actual black person here
Here I am listening to a very inspirational man named Ed Sheeran
Look at my sporting my awesome Ed Sheeran bracelets
Hey look its the songbook that Ed Sheeran inspired me to start writing my songs in
THE UKULELE ED SHEERAN INSPIRED ME TO START WRITING MUSIC WITH?????
THE GUITAR ED SHEERAN INSPIRED ME NOT TO GIVE UP ON????/ WOAH GEE GOLLY THIS IS GETTING CRAZY
WOW LOOK A BLACK PERSON HOLDING HER COUNTRY CD’S THAT HELPED HER REALIZE THAT SHE CAN WRITE ANY GENRE OF MUSIC REGARDLESS OF HER RACE??????!!1111??
A BLACK PERSON WEARING A BAND SHIRT FROM A *GASP* WHITE METALCORE BAND????
In all seriousness now. I am actually mixed and growing up I’ve always found it hard to fit in because no matter what I do my “white side” is showing or my “black side” is showing.
Music is music. It’s all telling a story but the genre is just how a person chooses to tell their story. Ed Sheeran’s genre is “singer-songwriter” sometimes he raps and sometimes he sings a love ballad; nothing is constant with him.
Isn’t it just as racist for the entire list to be black people? It is “black and urban music” not “black artists.”
It’s about the emotion you put into your lyrics. Not the chord progression you use. I can take any lyric in the world and change it to whatever genre I want but that won’t change a single feeling that I have towards it.
Despite my race or Ed’s race, he is the most influential artist I have ever listened to. I can listen to his music and then go write a country song but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s the one that inspired me to write.
This lesson has been brought to you by me; a girl who’s URL is literally “edsheeranisinspiration”
MY QUEEN MYQUEEN
Where have you been all my life? Thank you for saying this.
DENISE I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I FUCKING LOVE YOU
ALL HAIL DENISE THE QUEEN SHE FUCKING SLAYS
He can inspire black people, that doesn’t have shit to do with the fact that Black artists have to struggle enough to get recognition for the shit we pioneered and have done in the arts and a category specific to black music should be FOR BLACK PEOPLE. Y’all sound stupid and as much as I listen to Ed I’m side eyeing the fuck out of him. I’m tired of white people excluding and segregating and then wanna try to be apart of the shit we have to create and support ourselves because of what they started. Y’all can all go to hell.
This shit was stupid. NEXT!
Love yourself sis.
the side eye is strong
I love when people completely miss the point lmao
"Listening with ears" is why Iggy puts on her "black girl from Southwest Atlanta" voice. It’s very easy to be all kumbaya when you’re reaping the benefits of not looking like what people expect. He’s nothing new and one of a long line of white artists that put on blackness, get the accolades, and then move on to doing more mainstream stuff. It’s all a gimmick for white artists.
For the fucking last time the category is bLACK AND FUCKING URBAN MUSIC
